Anyway, back to the weather. There were a few times that the wind died and it got a little warmer than we would have liked. It was almost always hot anywhere away from the sea, such as in Tulum, or even the pathways around Azulik and Copal. The breeze the first two days helped us as we acclimated to the temperature and humidity. We really started to get used to it by the end of the week.
It did not rain the first two days, but then rained a little or lot the rest of the evenings, but always after we were in bed for the night. One morning it rained early, but I stayed in bed a little later (instead of getting up for the sunrise) and it was over by the time the wife woke up.

The rain did bring out mosquitos in more abundance. Before it rained we did not see them, even in Tulum. We used repellent when we knew we would be exposed, and it helped. The day we decided to visit the ruins we forgot to bring it, and it was dead calm and both viciously hot and buggy, even at 9 AM. We literally ran through snapping pictures, and are only now seeing the ruins for the first time! The only redemption was that it was Sunday, and they did not charge us admission.

In talking with locals, they agree that June is the hottest month and rightfully the "low" season. Staying anywhere but in beach front units would be miserable without air-conditioning. Having said that, I would not hesitate to again go in June. Combining the low season rate of $190/night with their 7 nights for 5 promotion muted the "sticker shock" of the Azulik experience, averaging $135/ night. That is frankly a bargain.
(sadly this has changed rather dramatically...prices are now pretty staggering)

Beach - the beach was great. I liked the little walk along the rocks from the beach stairs to the swimmable part of the beach. I liked to do this walk nude. We spent a little time each day sunning or (sitting in the shade) on the beach, but most of the time we would relax on the deck and then walk down to the beach for a swim and return to the cabana. The week that we there, the “textile” crowd vastly outnumbered the C/O's. At most, there would be only one or two other groups or individuals besides myself/the wife. I wished there would have been more, because the wife was more comfortable when there were others out. It did not bother me at all, because I was more than happy to be the "fat naked guy" on the beach!
It was interesting to me that for the most part, the nudists were women. There were a total of four men I saw during the week. One was "obviously" an experienced naturist there with his family. Another was half of a gay couple, who tried, but couldn't talk his partner into doffing his Speedo. There was another "naked fat guy" there the first time we visited the beach, but we never saw him again.
The final one was on our last swim before packing and checking out. I had developed the routine of walking the beach and taking a swim at sunrise, before the beach cleaners and others came out. The wife joined me on the last two days. Why the beach wasn't packed with people watching the sunrise is beyond me, but I digress. Anyway, The wife and I were sitting near water's edge, taking in the view before getting in the water, when a couple walked by, also enjoying a morning beach walk. After we went into the water, The wife noticed that the couple went a little further down the beach, where the guy, after a conversation with his wife/girlfriend, stripped off his shorts and waded in. It was pretty clear that seeing the two of us, had given him the courage to take the plunge.

I was surprised to see so much turnover in the guests at Azulik. Some stayed one night, arriving close to dark and would be gone the next morning. Being next door to the "Romance" unit, I was saddened at how little romance seemed to go on there. The unit was either empty or "one night stands" all week. There was a thirtyish couple that arrived the day before we left and were still there when we left. They were headed in the right direction by getting massages in their room, but opted for two simultaneous massages rather than the couples massage. That's a shame, as the "touch for two" massage was one of the neatest things the wife and I have ever done.
I was also surprised by how little socialization occurred between neighbors. I can't think of a single guest that we had a conversation with in the week we were there. We don't tend to be the gregarious types when we are on vacation, but we tried to at least be open to others. It just didn't happen. There was a young gal on the beach one afternoon with her dogs, and we were watching the dogs play (and missing our own). She noticed our interest, and came over. She spoke very little English, but we had a perfectly nice "conversation" about our pets. This was also the first time the wife and I had a social conversation with someone in a foreign language while completely naked. A cool memory!
